Photographer Michael Stokes is coming out with a hardcover coffee-table book called Always Loyal , featuring about 14 different veterans of the Gulf Wars who lost one or more limbs during service. Stokes got the idea for the project 2. I noticed that most [amuptee photos] emphasized the lost limb, and that the mood was often sorrowful. That was not the vibe I was getting from him, so I decided to simply photograph him as if he were not an amputee, photograph him exactly the same way I would any of my fitness models. The photos were so well-received that he decided to take more and launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a coffee-table book of the veterans, along with a book focusing on male figure studies.
